Maps of Discovery Points level 1-10

Dec 14, 2011 Poseidon update change:
*************** VIEWING YOUR "Log Book"  ie.  Authenticated and un-authenticated discoveries has changed********
to view your "log book":
Ctrl + A
Interaction Tab
icon says "Click to check out the Target" when you mouse over it

Introduction
Sparkles = Discoveries
--> Park your ship in the middle of the sparkles
--> Press the Discovery command icon and send out sailors
--> Make sure your character's bag, Article column, has empty slots
--> Read your chat screen in General Channel and wait for a log book

Getting a log book = Maneuverability EXP

How to use Auto track to go to a specific set of coordinants
  • open auto track (ctrl+p)
  • enter your x and y axis coordinates
  • click the "button" under the letters "tes" in the word coordinates.

Using the in game guide (E- book) to auto track
The E-book was removed from the game May 2012.
There is now no way to auto-track to the coordinates unless you physically type them in.

If you are having trouble reaching 61 maneuverability, do all the discoveries PLUS do all the adventure alliance tasks possible.

A discovery is NOT completed until you :
--> Take the log book(s) to an Authenticator and Authenticate Findings
Authenticator list also found in the in game E-book;  ctrl+e > 2 Findings Distribution > 11 Identifiers
--> Then, if it is for a quest, you can now go to the Adventure Alliance Master to submit it.

Doing discoveries is the best way to level your ship's Maneuverability.
Maneuverability is a must-train ship attribute for upgrading Raider ships and doing Adventure Alliance quests.
It also determines the levels of discoveries you can do.

However, all 3 classes of ship can be used to do discoveries up to LvL 61 Maneuverability.
After that, only LvL 7 and higher Raider/Adventure ship will get Maneuverability EXP from discoveries.

Important

Important

    Authenticate, authenticate, authenticate
  • I've said it before and I'll say it again : a discovery is NOT completed until you've authenticated it.
  • List of Authenticators

    Things to bring :
  • Maximum amount of sailors
  • Medic Kits (buy from the Shipyard Boss or get from Drifters) sailors don't always die, sometimes they just get sick and can be healed.
Bringing MK may enable you to spend more time doing discoveries.
  • Provisions as many as your ship can carry

    Sparkles MOVE around
  • Use the listed coordinates as starting point, but be prepared to sail + or - 10 points in either direction to find the sparkles.
  • Example : Baobab -  its listed coordinates are off the coastline, but you may find it right along the shore, off the coastline, or very far from the coastline.

Some discoveries can be really, really difficult...
  • Of all things, make sure your ship is right in the middle of sparkles
  • Sometimes, it's just not your hour / day  come back to the spot later and try again...
  • ... Or, with some you might even want to wait until you've leveled up.

    Use your in-game map
  • Some locations are difficult to reach. Use the map to move to the coords.
  • On-land sparkles? Try using the following trick:
Ctrl+M --> Click on the map away from land, to point your boat correctly.
--> Then click a spot on the map INLAND. That is, on the land part of the map.
--> You will notice your boat goes beyond the regular borders.
This is the only way, other than a maintenance cycle, to get a sparkle that is unreachable.

    Lower your sail
  • The slower your ship sails, the more provisions you save = more explorations.
  • As you get closer to the coords, hit ] key to lower your sail down to 4.
  • Why not 3? Because some people have difficulties getting sparkles when sailing real slow.

    Random sparkles
  • Sometimes sparkles will show up in random places. They are a random event and only appear 2 times.
They give a Treasure Map Piece.

"There seems to be nothing here"
  • It takes 10 "In exploring" messages before the above message comes up
= Time to sail away, then back to the area and find the sparkles again.

    "Sailor is missing during exploration"
  • It's been said that 90% or more discoveries happen after the above message. (*link broken and deleted)

    Relation to finding provision
  • Amount of provision you find while discovering can tell you if it's the right spot.
    It varies by level.
Example : While doing a LvL 2 discovery you find 100 provisions = Wrong spot
  • These amounts of provisions = Right spot = Stay there, should discover soon :
    LvL 1 : 108
    LvL 2 : 195
    LvL 2.5 - 3 : 215

Sailors death rate is proportional to the number of sailors you send out
  • Send more sailors = More deaths = More re-supply trips BUT,
  • Sending more = Getting log book faster
  • In each level section there will be a suggested number of sailors to send.

Wear the right clothes & jewlery
  • Wearing "Sailor Damage Reduced" clothes can help decrease sailor deaths
  • Voyage-type, noble-type and Navy-Rank type uniforms have Sailor Damage Reduced stats
  • Wear  Far-watching necklace (Increases success ratio of Discovery by 10%)
  • Wear 2 Exploring Finger Rings (Increases success ratio of discovery by 5% x 2)
  • For level 10 discoveries wear the Golden Compass (assistance) (added 50% odds to succeeded in exploring) Maneuverability 91 requirement.

Store the log books on your ship first, then in your character's bag
  • Game puts the new log book in your character's bag, Article column, every time.
  • But, the Authenticator will authenticate the ones in your ship, too.
  • To make sure you have room for a new log book : Every time you get a new one, move it to your ship immediately.

    Repair your ship while discovering
  • Sometimes you ship suffer damages when discovering.
  • If you have Shipbuilding skill, use the Repair command icon*, Ctrl+Z, and click on your ship.
    *Ctrl+A --> Interaction tab --> Repair

Check and clean up your ship's Goods column occasionally - Avoid Pirates
  • Sometimes during discovering you will get fish = Pirate Raiding ships come after you
  • Use a Sea Mermaid to avoid regular pirate raids (some raids may still occur)

    Money management
  • Heal and recruit sailors at the Tavern much cheaper than doing it at the Docker.
  • Buying Medic Kits can be expensive in the long run -- collect from Drifters every chance you get.

Goal
Train to Maneuverability LvL 11

Requirements
Maneuverability : LvL 1 and above
Ship : LvL 1
Telescope : None

Recommended
Exploring Finger Ring
Far-watching Necklace
Sea Mermaid

Coordinates
Suggested number of sailors : 5

Level 1 coordinates updated to match E-Book
12/28/2010  - Ele

All level 1 discoveries give one of the following 3 rewards when Authenticated
1,155 Coin & 87 Reputation
1,540 Coin & 93 Reputation
1,733 Coin & 97 Reputation

If you find all of the level 1 discoveries you get a Total Reputation: 3,904-3,914
(I had authenticated 1 discovery prior to recording numbers so one was an unknown 87, 93 or 97)

As usual your Maneuverability while sailing is 1% of your voyage experience (yellow numbers) & your profession experience is 5% of your Voyage experience (used Emperor Guardian profession char).

I can not say with certainty how many manuverability levels you will get.  Using a manuverability 19 ship I only made 3 levels doing all of the level 1 discoveries.... But the discoveries are designed to level a Adventure (raider) ship enough to be able to rebuild it to the next level...so if you use a level 1 adventure ship with 1 manuverability by the end of these discoveries you should have enough manuverability to rebuild it to a level 2 ship. Note I said Adventure ship not Caroelle, Trader or Battleship.. they get less voyage when sailing.

When you make the actual discovery you get a "boost" of extra manuverability;
For level 1 that "boost" seems to be either; 3,892 or 15,432 Maneuverability points. (using a Dragon Head gunboat, manuverability 19-21, Voyage 68 -69.)
I have no idea how those numbers are calculated or if they are random or fixed per discovery.

Use the E-book auto track when ever you can.  The numbers written in the E-book are not the same numbers you stop at though they are generally with in 3 or 4 digits.
But because you will not always see sparkles after you sail over the spot even 3-5 times, if you use auto track, you will know you are in the correct spot and can send sailors out exploring immediately.

***WARNING***
As of October 1, 2011...
I have noticed the white chat is not always correct!!
Many times it would say a high number of sailors injured but only a few actually were.  So watch your "green" bar for actual amount of sailors dead or injured!!

** side note; I did these discoveries in a level 20 manuverability ship with out a telescope.
I got sparkles for about 8-10 level 2 discoveries and was able to discover them but lost a few more sailors on them then as on level 1's.

3,883 Coin & 102 Reputation
4,533 Coin & 108 Reputation
5,180 Coin & 114 Reputation
8,820 Coin & 140 Reputation

If you find and authenticate all of the level 2 discoveries you get a Total Reputation: 9,066 - 9,104 (missing one)

As usual your Maneuverability while sailing is 1% of your voyage experience (yellow numbers) & your profession experience is 5% of your Voyage experience (used Emperor Guardian profession char).

I can not say with certainty how many manuverability levels you will get.  Using a manuverability 21ship I only made 5 levels doing all of the level 2 discoveries.... Level 2 coordinates updated to match E-Book actual stopping location

***** Some of these discoveries are extremely hard to find.  If you lose more than 100 sailors, skip the discovery and come back to it when your maneuverability is 21or higher!!!!!... they do register as level 2 discoveries in your log book but I think the programming is wrong and the manuverability required to find some of the points (especially in the inner Mediterranean area) is set too high. *******

After collecting a lot of data, I can tell you that all the discoveries that give 114 reputation are the hard ones to find...
Therefore I have re-written the guide and re written the order so that most of theses discoveries are at the end of your path.

Because the E-book does not separate these difficult to find discoveries, I have put them all together but have indicated which ones will be difficult to find by making them
THIS BROWN COLOR

YOU WILL NOT SEE SPARKLES for the BROWN discoveries (I did not see them with manuverability 21 + lvl 1  scope)
Use auto track to get to them and just start searching.  If you have 21 manuverability you will find them, just not see any sparkles.
I suggest you have over 21 manuverability to find them (so you may just want to skip them and do them later)
In order to see the sparkles I had to use a level 3 ship and a level 2 "pilot" telescope)

If you do not have enough manuverability to reach the next level.... do adventure alliance tasks!!!

Level 2.5 - 3.0 Discoveries

  Level 2.5 - 2.9
The original author of this guide split up the level 2 discoveries because some are more difficult to find.
I have recombined them..and indicated the difficult to find discoveries by making them a brown color.
